Paul Blanca And His Shocking Art Photography

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 4:46 pm

Paul Blanca (1954/58), official name Paul Vlaswinkel, is a Dutch artist (art photographer) who had a breakthrough in the early 80s of the last century with his confrontational violent self-portraits influenced by the American photographers Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) and Andres Serrano (1950). The self-taught Blanca came into touch with the artscene when he met Eva Veldhoen, the daughter of the well-known Dutch painter Aat Veldhoen (1934). The acquaintance with this artistic environment was a real eye-opener for Blanca and shortly after he started photographing, first in color with a small screen camera but very soon after shooting in B&W using a Hasselblad camera (6 X 6 cm).

In 1980 he was introduced to the world-famous choreographer Hans van Manen (1932), who is a meritorious photographer himself and had a photo studio. Besides their mutual interest in photography, Van Manen also used Blanca in one of his dance choreographies called Pose in which Blanca performed as a kick-boxer, he was a practitioner of this full-contact sport from the age of 16, surrounded by ballerina’s.

Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) who was a close friend of Van Manen was very impressed by Blanca’s self-portraits and later introduced him to New York’s high society (like Keith Haring, Willem de Kooning, Japser Johns, Grace Jones…etc.) stating ‘Paul Blanca is my only competitor’. The art collector Bill Katz says in Anthony Haden Guest’s True Colors – The Real Life of the Art World on Blanca: “…he reaches a kind of poetry few artists have”.

Most of Blanca’s self-portraits deal with strong emotions and violent themes like fear, sadness, pain, agression and sexuality exploring his inner demons. Diametrically against this harsh work, there are the sensitive and gentle pictures like the one called Mother and Son (Mapplethorpe’s favourite) depicting himself in a tender embrace with his mother, both fully naked, or the portrait holding his newborn son in the air called Father and Son.

In 1986 Blanca worked on a book called Timing (edition of 1000) which featured the upcoming Dutch artists of the eighties and his photographs were accompanied by poems of Koos Dalstra (1950). For his touching series Par la Pluie des Femmes (1989) he asked his female models to think of their most traumatic experiences. Together with Hans Gieles and Francis Boeske of the gallery Vous Etes Ici he produced the magnificent Sangre de Toro series in 1991 (see ‘Blood of the Bull’ below).

During this time Blanca also started as a research-journalist for the Amsterdam weekly, Nieuwe Revu and the newspaper Het Parool. He wrote about crack and again exploring his own boundaries he started to use it himself, resulting in an addiction. His article for Nieuwe Revu on weapons was the starting point of a downward spiral with him being a suspect in the assault on Rob Scholte in 1995 because of his “knowledge” of grenades. There was a long silence but in 2008 Blanca returned with a project called Mi Mattes in which he photographed gangmembers hanging around his studio.

Self-portraits

Over the years there seems to be an increasing will-power in Blanca’s self-portraits. In 1982 he photographed himself With Eelsholding six living eels in his mouth (in his perception a disgusting animal), he looks into the world (at the viewer) with a resigned facial expression like he’s thinking “that’s how it really goes” with the scavengers fulfilling his wish to immortalization. In Blanca’s Selfportrait, Back with Mickey Mouse, the large depiction on his back inflicted with a sharp knife (razor blade) by a befriended tattoo-artist, of Mickey Mouse with his thumbs up and a big smile, like he’s saying: “Keep up the good work”, is a sceptical statement because the mouse is crying. In his Selfportrait Bull (1982) Blanca becomes, with his painted body disguished as a bull and his agressive facial expression, a disturbed figure. With his erected penis in his left hand and his right hand in a clenched grip, he’s looking for an exertion disarming the poetic image. The excessive nature of Blanca’s self-portraits serve as a purification and therefore he has to subvert all boundaries and norms.

Blood of the Bull

Blanca who had lived and worked in Spain for two years (in the early 90s), had, while there, become obsessed by bullfighting and kept up with all the ferias (local seasonal festivities) to take photographs. To challenge himself emotionally Blanca also participated in a bullfight, not with real bulls but with dangerous vacas(cows) of 850 pounds. It intrigued him that when the corrida (bullfight) was at an end, the bull’s meat was served in restaurants but nothing was done with the blood- it is the fluid of life, after all. Blanca investigated whether blood could be used as silk-screen printing-ink. The treated blood was used for the Sangre de Toro port-folio, based on Blanca’s photos. Pressing the ink through the screen only once produced no more than a light pink colour, and in the end 35 ‘pulls’ were needed to achieve the darkest tone in the pictures, creating a visible relief. The series forms a high point on the periphery of Blanca’s photographic work. For the affecionades(devotees) it is a must, for opponents of bullfighting it is also a monument of beauty.

Physical Therapy for Preventative Care

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 2:44 pm

There are many different fields of physical therapy which can assist with preventative care and health and wellness. Physical therapists specialize in different areas such as orthopedic, geriatric, neurological, cardiovascular and pulmonary, pediatric, health and wellness and other types of rehab therapy. A physical therapist does more than treat injuries and disabilities that result from illness. Physical therapy also involves research, patient education, counseling of patients, and developing new ways of using physical therapy, as well as developing treatment plans which are personalized for each patient.

Physical injury and pain is common in all types of people which is the main reason physical therapy profession exists. However, physical therapists also take a sincere interest in the overall health and wellness of their patients which means they are capable of providing preventative care. So, if you are wondering how physical therapy can help you with preventative care here are a few reasons why you should seek physical therapy as early on as possible.

See a Physical Therapist Regularly

Just like you schedule a regular check-up with your physician as a preventative measure against illness, the same rule applies to physical therapy. You should schedule a regular check-up with a physical therapist to prevent pain and injury from becoming a chronic problem.

A physical therapist can evaluate the status of your health through a detailed evaluation of muscular, skeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and pulmonary, and other parts of your body. If the physical therapist finds a weakness they will recommend a personalized treatment plan. This prevents the problem from getting worse and requiring further treatment. Many people do not think about the option of seeing a physical therapist regularly because they think this type of rehab therapy is only for disability and injury.

Prevent Surgical Treatment

If a physical therapist detects a problem early on it can be treated with the proper rehabilitation plan and prevent you from having surgery as a result of allowing the problem to get worse. This is another reason why physical therapy is important for preventative care. Not only can it keep you mobile and healthy, it can also save you the expense of surgery and medications down the road. Additionally, it can bypass further health problems that can transpire as the result of having surgery. If the procedure is not performed properly the probability of having bigger complications following the surgery are quite good.

Maintain Physical Strength

As you age you lose muscle mass and if you do not engage in a maintenance program you can end up with a host of mobility problems. A physical therapist can design a treatment plan to help keep you moving and to strengthen your muscles and bones to help you live a high quality of life well into the later years of your life. If you start the maintenance program before you begin to experience problems you can head anything off before it has a chance to take hold of you.

How To Be Truly Beautiful

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 2:38 pm

Are you a beautiful person?

No matter how you answered, I challenge you to think again. Let me pose the question another way:

Do you feel beautiful?

Thats a horse of a different color.

Ive heard people remark on how refreshing it is to meet someone real, genuine and authentic, confident and happy with who they are. These people radiate charm and grace as inner beauty emanates from the very core of their being. More than simply see it, we can feel it.

What makes them different? They are aware of who they are in a way that most others arent. Its hard to fathom if your concept of beauty is only skin deep. The world is rife with people whose outer beauty opened doors for them only to slam shut in their faces when the truth came out.

The fashion and cosmetics industries cash in on fears like this. Given the power of advertising, its no wonder so many people spend their lives focused on appearances and superficial fix-ups while neglecting what makes them truly beautiful.

Inner beauty improves with age and makes you grow more attractive with each passing year. Maybe you know someone like this how do they do it? What is their fountain of youth?

In many cases, the answer amounts to three little letters: e-g-o. For good reason, people who glow with inner beauty have created well-adjusted egos.

This is why many physically stunning people – the knockouts in the room – arent always so attractive when you get to know them better. Why? For nine out of ten, its ego. One way or another, fragile or frankly insufferable, thats the issue.

On the other hand, the people with healthy egos are easy to spot. Theyre confident and fun; they’re genuinely comfortable with who they are, and insecurity and self-doubt are virtually nonexistent. They can take a joke and dish it out with ease and grace; they let go of criticism, forgive more readily, and quickly dissolve resentment and the negative emotions that thwart happiness and self-esteem.

Free from the stressors that etch wrinkles into skin, you recognize their inner beauty when you look at them. You sense it when they walk into the room; they look and feel younger than their age, and almost everyone likes them.

Those whose egos serve them possess charisma and charm thats hard to put into words. They brew a captivating aura that adds grace and presence to the dynamic, and sometimes makes them downright irresistible.

This is true beauty. Think of it as truth in transcendence.

To be truly beautiful, learn to recognize, manage and play with your ego. Put it in its proper place as an indispensable asset, subordinate to and in the service of your authentic self.

The rewards await you.

Vitamins and Skin Health

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 1:27 pm

Vitamins play an important role in the health and wellness of our minds, bodies, and even skin. The better health and nutrition we consume the better overall appearance of our skin. Vitamins are no exception. They can be ingested internally as well as applied as lotions and creams to provide a healthy, youthful glow to a persons skin. But which vitamins are good for the skin?

Vitamins C and E are wonderful for the skin. Vitamin C has been proven to help protect the skin from sun exposure. This can reduce the effects and chance of getting skin cancers. It also promotes the production of collagen, which helps maintain a youthful appearance. Vitamin E also helps protect harmful Ultraviolet rays that can damage skin cells. Vitamin E also makes skin soft and subtle and helps moisturize dry skin. Vitamin C and E both come in the forms of creams and lotions, but you can also get them from dietary intake such as citrus fruit, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, olives, and bell peppers, to name a few.

Vitamin A is also good for the skin. A diet rich in vitamin A will reduce wrinkles and prevent dry skin. This vitamin is important in the production and maintenance of skin cells and without it, your skin will show the deficiency. Fruits contain plenty of vitamin A, so be sure to consume plenty every day. To top it off, recent studies have shown that when individuals consume plenty of Vitamin A, they can reduce the effects of psoriases.

Everyone knows that the B Vitamins are good for you, but do you know which vitamins are good for the skin? Niacin and biotin are the two top B vitamins for skin care. A lack of biotin can cause hair loss and itchy skin, but rest assured you can get the proper amounts just by eating bananas, eggs, rice, and other foods. Niacin helps skin retain moisture and improves skin tone. Using these lotions can provide shiny, healthy looking skin with quick results.

Vitamin K is another one that is great for the skin when applied in a lotion or cream. This vitamin reduces the look of red puffy under eyes as well as bruises. It works even better when combined with Vitamin A. To drastically improve the appearance of dark circles around the eyes, combine Vitamin C, E, A, B, and K for better results.

As you can see, many of the same vitamins that are good for our bodies are also good for our skin. A lack of any of these vital nutrients can cause dry, scaly, itchy skin or even hair loss. To keep skin moisturized and healthy looking, make sure that you are receiving adequate amounts of these vitamins through a proper diet. And then look for creams or lotions that contain these vitamins. Now you know what vitamins are good for the skin.

Hospitals Expand To Attract Well-insured Patients Despite Pressures Of Healthcare Reforms

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 12:46 pm

Several hospitals are looking for well-insured patients beyond traditional market boundaries, both in prosperous suburbs and in nearby areas with growing, well-insured populations. According to a study by the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC) hospitals seeking a competitive edge in the marketplace are targeting geographic expansion into new markets which are well-insured.

The study based on HSCs visits to 12 nationally representative metropolitan communities, depicted that hospitals are expanding despite the pressures of the healthcare reform. Hospital strategies mainly include building full-service hospitals, establishing freestanding emergency departments and other outpatient services, acquiring physician practices, and operating medical transport systems with several hospitals building near major highways to be accessible.

Hospitals expansions survey findings

In all 12 markets surveyed results depicted that hospitals are looking for full-service hospitals or freestanding emergency departments, buying or establishing physician practices and developing a regional presence through emergency medical transport systems

Recession rather than diminishing has heightened the drive among hospitals to pursue well-insured patients beyond traditional hospital market boundaries

Expansion appears more frequent where large hospital systems were pursuing significant employment of physicians and where service-line strategies, such as cardiac or cancer care, were well entrenched

Impact on Hospitals & Independent physicians

The overall impact of hospitals geographic expansions is still to be observed, there are conflicting views within the industry regarding these new hospital competitive strategies, if they will increase costs, improve care or both. Hospitals are of the view that the expansions will increase efficiency, increase access and improve the quality of patient care, while payers and competitors argue such strategies will lead to elevated costs.

Also Independent Physicians in most markets due to health reforms who are faced with financial pressures along with difficulty in hiring younger physicians, who often prefer employment in larger organizations, are actively seeking the stability and security of employment in larger physician-owned or hospital-owned groups. According to the HSC study in fast growing and well insured Greer, SC, there are no more independent primary-care practices left.

Revenue cycle management amidst hospital expansion and reforms

Hospitals backing expansions as necessary countering that even though there are costs increases, their efforts provide increased high-quality care; will need to cater to higher patient influx and increased medical billing. Hence in this scenario along with the growing pressure of health care reforms, services of skilled service providers possessing the requisite credentials can be availed by hospitals and practitioners to maintain favorable revenue cycles management.

Lyme Disease Treatments – What Are The Early Symptoms

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 11:31 am

Getting the Lyme disease treatment really depends on how early you realize that you’ve been infected with the disease. If you catch the tick bite early on then clearing everything up shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If, however, like some people you are asymptomatic and don’t know that you have the disease until it is in its later stages, getting proper treatment and overcoming the disease can be more difficult. Here are some of the treatment options that you have to choose from if you manage to contract this disorder.

Your physician can be a great resource for treating these symptoms. You may not have discovered Buchu yet but it’s on the supplement list. It’s medical name is Agathosma Betulina. Also known as an immune system supporter. This should be able to help make your immune system even stronger so that it can help the medication that you have been given work even more effectively.

If the antibiotics don’t work or the disease wasn’t caught soon enough, your doctor may try intravenous drugs. If this treatment method is used, you will most likely be given rocephin. Whether the intravenous treatment is followed antibiotics or not does not change the effectiveness. Talking to your doctor will help you decide what is best for you. To treat this disease in its later stages, you may need the stronger dosage in the intravenous treatment.

I’ve even heard some Food Treatments work for Lyme Disease. Food Therapy is what it’s called when the food you eat helps you fight disease. The two main foods to concentrate on for this disease are Vitamin C and Garlic. Those two ingredients have been shown to boost the immune system. Your other medications will become more beneficial to you with this shock to your system. This is a supplement and only a supplement talk to your doctor.

The choices for treatment of Lyme Disease are pretty standard. You are typically not given much more than an antibiotic to cure it. Only after the first stage does it become more difficult to treat. Once you’ve reached this stage you must usually be hospitalized for treatment with IV drugs. Of course that doesn’t mean that there aren’t lots of different ways to treat the symptoms and side effects of your disease. Talk to your doctor about ways that you can feel more comfortable while you work through and recover from the disease. It is possible for your life to return to normal.

Virus Scanning Software Review – Anti Spyware Downloads Virus Scan

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 11:27 am

Are you looking to download virus scanning software for virus & spyware detection and removal on your PC system? Even with the advancements in PC security protection programs today, there are still many vulnerabilities that hackers can easily exploit and use to hack into systems.

Because of this imperfection, it is essential for all PC users to have an updated piece of software constantly running on their computers. If you do not already have security software, you should definitely download a good one as soon as possible.

1. What Are the Different Types of Virus Scanning Software You Can Use?

There are many different companies online with technical staff specialized at designing and maintaining spyware and virus scanning software. All of them have different capabilities. Some are more powerful for detecting incoming threats and stopping the incoming virus or malware, whereas others are more effective for getting rid of threats that already exist in the system.

2. What Can Virus & Spyware Detection and Removal Software Do To Ensure Your Data Is Always Protected?

There are several features that you should consider before making the decision to get any software, namely the effectiveness at removing malware and viruses, the speed at which it runs at and whether the software is constantly updated with the latest patches. After running a full scan, it should tell you the type of malware that are existing inside the system and the recommended type of action that has the highest chance of getting rid of the threat.

3. Running Regular Scans with Virus Scanning Software

Also, once you have the program, you should schedule it to run regular scans at frequent intervals to keep your PC running smoothly. Without doing this, a virus left to do its own thing can potentially wipe out an entire hard disk or a spyware can steal passwords within a short space of time.

How To Heal Chapped Lips Corners – Methods To Cure Angular Cheilitis

  • Posted on June 11, 2017 at 9:58 am

If you would like to know how to heal chapped lips corners, a better understanding of what causes this condition will put you in a better position to make informed treatment choices.

If you have had this condition for longer than a day or so, it is very likely to be a condition called angular cheilitis. This is a common condition caused by an overgrowth in the bacteria which naturally resides on our lips. In normal circumstances, this is completely harmless and causes no symptoms whatsoever.

Why the bacteria should cause problems in some people and not others is not always known. One cause can be a weakened immune system, whereby the body’s ability to fight off bacteria is impaired. In others, ill-fitting dentures can cause improper closing of the mouth which in turn can cause pockets of skin to form which harbor bacteria and provide a perfect breeding ground. Similar pockets of skin can also form in people who gain large amounts of weight rapidly. For others, constant thumb-sucking and nail-biting or even chewing on pens can keep the area just outside of the mouth moist, again providing a breeding ground for the bacteria. Unfortunately, once the bacteria has taken hold, it can be very difficult to eradicate and many suffers who have chapped lips corners have the condition on and off for months at a time.

If you would like to know how to heal chapped lips corners, there are a number of self-help steps you can take which may help.

If your angular cheilitis is caused by poorly fitting dentures, you should get these corrected as soon as possible. It will also help if you keep your new dentures and mouth scrupulously clean by using a medicated mouthwash and soaking your dentures overnight in an antiseptic solution, ensuring they are properly rinsed before use.

For fast relief from the pain of chapped lips corners, you can use some petroleum jelly or unscented lip balm. Although this will not help the healing process, it will prevent further cracking and have a soothing effect.

For nail-biters and thumb-suckers and those who chew on pens, you can try painting the offending objects with the bitter tasting liquid which discourage nail-biting. These are completely safe and can help break the habit.

For those who feel the problem is due to weight gain, you should take steps to lose the excess and maintain your ideal weight.

There is a very simple, speedy way to cure angular cheilitis which promises immediate relief and that you will be completely free of this condition overnight. It is available for immediate download and works for everyone.
