Park Gilo Heaven For Kids

  • Posted on August 23, 2017 at 3:01 pm

In Park Gilo, a shady forest alongside the residential neighborhood of the same name in southern Jerusalem, Jerusalemites nearly yearround will pack up the kids, break out the portable barbecue grills and take the opportunity to spend the day outdoors.

The smells of grilling chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and the sounds of conversations and children shouting in Hebrew, English, Yiddish, Arabic and French indicate just how widely used the park is by Jerusalemites of all types.

Shady wonderland

Park Gilo is one of Jerusalem`s lesser known attractions, mostly due to it`s location off the beaten track, away from the city center. There are separate playgrounds for babies/toddlers and older kids, a smooth rollerblade track and a wire climbing structure unlike anything I`ve seen anyplace else.

There`s also a tennis and basketball court, and a stunning walking track overlooking the Malcha neighborhood and the Gilo forest. To the west, the panoramic view of the Jerusalem hills overlooks the Refaim Valley and the Jerusalem-Bet Shemesh train line.

“I can`t say we come here all the time,” said Malkiel, a transplanted New Yorker who has lived in the German Colony neighborhood for nearly a decade, “but we come a lot. Especially in summer, it`s one of the shadiest spots around, and my three kids spend hours climbing, jumping, swinging and just having a good time.

Speaking during an easy game of catch with nine-year-old son Aviad, Malkiel said the park is often a destination for family cookouts, picnics or hikes, and said the extended family was only too happy to set out for the park when the early morning fog burned off Wednesday morning. Aviad was too busy playing football to speak to Go Jerusalem.

My five-year-old son, Idan, a native of Jerusalem, gave a slightly more energetic description of the afternoon`s activities: “I went on the big slide and climbed up again and saw you standing down there kicking the football with Gilad (his older brother). Then I ran around and around and around and wanted to play with the other kids. Can I have a drink, please?”

That about sums it up.

– Andrew Friedman

Directions to Park Gilo: From Pat Junction, travel south on Ya`akov Pat St., name will change to Dov Yosef St. after the first traffic light). Continue up hill towards Gilo neighborhood, then right at top of hill onto Haganenet St. Haganenet runs straight into the park.

Things You Must Know To Parent Better

  • Posted on August 20, 2017 at 2:07 pm

Remember that you were a kid once and that its never easy trying to adjust to new things like a different school, a new home, etc, so its always important that youre supportive if your child seems hesitant to adjust. Good parents are supportive parents willing to communicate. Parents who ignore and/or force the adjustment are in danger of losing their childs respect.

Although it can be difficult, try not to discipline your child when you are angry. When you are emotionally charged, you might not be able to discipline your child fairly, and you might risk saying hurtful things to him that you might regret later. Give yourself a few moments to cool off before talking to your child.

Get your kids in the kitchen. Asking them to help, even in small ways, with meal time will get them more interested in the meal youre preparing. Theyre likely to eat better if they are more interested. In addition, it keeps your children from becoming bored while youre trying to cook.

When training your child to use the potty, buy them underwear with their favorite cartoon character on it. Children always do better with encouragement. By letting them wear these kind of underwear, they will feel better about using the potty because they do not want to have an accident in their “special” underwear.

It is important to make sure that your child is not watching too much violence on television. Children learn by what they see and if they see too much violence it could make them think that it is acceptable or lose a sense of what is real violence and what is not.

To instill the value of social graces in your toddler, start early. Encourage him to wave hello and goodbye and to actually say hello and goodbye once he is able to speak. Also lead by example and greet your spouse, family, and friends with a cheerful greeting upon seeing them.

We all know that parenting can be a stressful job, especially in todays hectic world. Its hard to know what is the right (or wrong) way to do things. Try out the suggestions in this article to benefit from the experience of other parents who are raising successful, happy children.

A Child Custody Attorney In Silverdale WA Explains Factors Considered When Awarding Child Custody

  • Posted on August 19, 2017 at 10:01 am

Whenever married spouses divorce and begin the process of fighting for child custody, the big question that arises is, “Who will win the custody case?” In the court proceedings, parents are notified that custody will be awarded in the best interest of the child. Many parents do not understand the court’s consideration before awarding custody. The court will take into account the following aspects before awarding or denying a parent his or her wishes for child custody. In the assessment of Child Custody Attorney Silverdale WA, each state has unique considerations, but general codes may apply across jurisdictions.

First, the age of the child is imperative when deciding custody. Where a child is still a toddler, the jurors may award custody rights to a female. In addition, the wishes of each spouse will be essentially important. Secondly, the type of relationship shared between a child and each of the parents is crucial. For example, if a child has bitterness and reservations about one of the parents, the court may decide to rule in the best interest of the child, allowing a parent sharing quality relationships with the child to take over custody.

The willingness demonstrated by each parent to stay with the child and offer support the child’s growth and development. Remember that this is not an easy aspect for either parent to prove. Therefore, a parent may need to have a Child Custody Attorney Silverdale WA to help navigate the burden of proof. Where a child has attained an age and can make decisions, a court may call upon him, or her to offer an insight into the parent who has been seen to be supportive. The court would want to know whether a parent seeking custody rights has been supportive in the past until this moment when separation is reining.

Confirmed evidence of domestic violence or neglect by one of the parents may be a concrete factor to deny him or her custody rights over the child. If you are a disfavored party after consideration of some of the above factors, you may want to fight for visitation, which may be another tough battle. However, an experienced Child Custody Attorney Silverdale WA will help you create a convincing presentation that will help you get a favorable consideration.

A child custody attorney can not only help you get through this difficult period, but can also help to ensure you get a fair shake in court. Click here to know more.

Classic Childrens Books

  • Posted on August 11, 2017 at 12:50 pm

Selecting a classic childrens book can be fun, rewarding and a trip down memory lane. There are some unifying things that make childrens books classics.

First of all, childrens books should be bright and colorful, with illustrations that capture a childs attention. Books by Dr. Seuss are prime examples of classic childrens stories which make successful use of vibrant colors. Goodnight, Moon, Goodnight, Gorilla, and anything by Eric Carle are also excellent examples of books with illustrations that suck in the reader.

Secondly, classic childrens books should tell a good story, often with humor. Kids love to laugh, and a well-written childrens book will crack a child up over and over. The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf, The Paper Bag Princess, and Click Clack, Moo Cows that Type are fast becoming childrens classics because they crack kids up every time! The Ramona Quimby and Junie B. Jones series also are great examples!

Finally, classic childrens books engage children at their level. For young children, these are books that have a tactile component, something they can touch and manipulate. For example, Pat the Bunny is a book that even the youngest children can engage with because it is soft, and they can explore through touch. When children get a little older, many childrens stories are books with repetition.

Classic stories like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom or I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly are stories with repeating lines. As children listen to the book, they can fill in the blanks of the story with these repeating phrases. From there, many childrens books incorporate rhyme. That is why Dr. Seuss is so popular. Finally, as children get older, they appreciate classic childrens stories with great characters, doing great things.

Where the Wild Things Are, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Amelia Bedelia and Ruby in Her Own Time are examples of classic childrens stories with great characters exploring an exciting time for them. These classic stories also have lessons but they do not beat children over the head with them.

Obviously, classic childrens stories mean different things to different people. Reading a plethora of different types of stories to children is vital to them becoming good, mature, accomplished readers. This is also a key to getting children to love to read! Every book that a child connects to is a classic in his or her own mind, and that is a great thing indeed.

Becoming a Foster Parent

  • Posted on August 4, 2017 at 11:49 am

Becoming a foster parent can be a wonderful gift to yourself and the child that you care for. It is important before getting into this type of work that you know there will be ups and downs, and that it will not be easy.

Some might think it is just a good way to earn some extra money. Others find it a calling to help children in need. If you are not the latter then perhaps you should reconsider going into this work.

Besides being the right person in order to be a foster parent, it is important that you are with a good agency. Even though you are not doing the work for the money, it is still important that you receive the money you need to care for the children. The agency that you will work with should guarantee money for room, board, clothing, and they should provide insurance.

There are other areas that you need to consider as a foster parent. Sometimes a child will be in your home after terrible circumstances. It is important that the agency that is helping you is truly helping you. They should not leave you on your own to help a child deal with emotional and physical problems. Some kids may need counseling, and the agency should either provide it or pay for it.

Even if you are the right type of person for the job of foster parent and even if you have the right agency, it is important that you are prepared for the worst circumstance. You might be the right person for the job because of your empathy, but this may make it more difficult for you than anyone else to let these children go when it is time for them to move on to a different home or to an adopted family.

You will need to be their foster parent while still realizing that you are not really their family. You can love them and take care of them, but in your own mind you will need to keep them at arm’s length knowing that any day they can be taken out of your home.

Having to live with this reality might be a deal-breaker for even the most dedicated individual. Do not feel like you are being talked out of this great opportunity. Just know that since you know the worst, you can be prepared, and enjoy the time you have with each child. This could be one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Hopefully if you are the right person then you will make the right choice.

Overprotective Parenting

  • Posted on July 31, 2017 at 8:52 am

Overprotective parenting seems to be on the rise, with parents getting increasingly involved in, and ambitious about their childrens activities. Overprotective parenting is often the result of parents forgetting their children are individuals in their own right. Very often, overprotective parenting is a result of parents viewing their kids as an extension of themselves. Everything they wished to achieve, academically or on the sports field, is thrust on their children. The poor kids are expected to shine as superstars instead of just enjoying what they do.

These parents fail to differentiate their children’s desires and feelings from their own. They imagine their perfectly nice kids to be suffering from performance anxiety purely a reflection of their anxiety about the kids performance. Tennis or baseball can never be just a game to be enjoyed with friends. The child has to reach the US Open or Junior League. Parents fail to recognize the childs irritation at their interference, putting it down to sensitivity and anxiety.

Overprotective parenting often results in parents refusing to recognize and accept that their child has done anything wrong. As a result of overprotective parenting, children are condoned for destructive behavior and never have to face the rap for their actions. The parents thus validate unhealthy behavior instead of setting appropriate role models. Anxious parents shield their children from the consequences of their behavior. Thus, the child is always let off the hook, instead of being corrected.

Most children are embarrassed by their parents behavior as they grow older. They also resent the constant interference and anxiety about their performance. They wish the parents would back off and let them figure things out for themselves. Overprotective parents want to take the bumps out of their childrens lives, forgetting it is all a part of growing up. Life is not a spectator sport, and everyone has to go through good and bad experiences. Children learn to cope with failure when they go through a tough patch and they mature as a result of it.

Overprotective parents just focus on their childs achievements, and not the childs development. Kids are embarrassed when parents interfere in school about grades or inclusion in an activity. Parents, however, are obsessed with success, and are often misguided in their goals. In their anxiety, they take away all the discomforts, disappointments and even the fun out of growing up. Unfortunately, this kind of control can make the child go haywire when he or she is away at University, and could even end in alcoholism and drug abuse. Let children bloom at their own pace, and enjoy growing up, instead of overprotecting them.

Kids Scooter Accessories Increase Outdoor Fun

  • Posted on July 26, 2017 at 5:33 pm

The timeless scooter is a lot of fun and a wonderful form of exercise. Using a scooter helps children improve their balance and agility and helps build physical endurance. Scooters have long been a popular choice for kids when it comes to outdoor play.

Why not enhance a child’s scooter with Kids Scooter Accessories?

Any girl would most definitely love to have her scooter decorated with beautiful flower stickers and sparkly gems. A boy would enjoy being able to personalise his scooter with some cool flame stickers. Perhaps a child would like to decorate their scooter with their name using alphabet stickers. There’s no need to worry about the quality of the stickers. They are made of PVC and are weather resistant.

Of course, boys and girls alike would enjoy having a fun horn to honk as they make their way around the neighbourhood. After all, the more noise, the better as far as children are concerned. Don’t forget the streamers! Pink, blue and long, short are just a few of the options that exist as far as streamers are concerned.

As always, safety is a very important consideration for any parent when it comes to the toys their children use. There are various micro scooter accessories that are available to help improve the safety of a scooter such as non-slip grips that allow the child to have better footing when riding a scooter. The grips come in fun designs and, just like the stickers, are made from weather resistant PVC.

Of course, as a parent, while it is a lot of fun to take your child to a nearby park to ride his or her scooter, kids may get tired after having been so active, and the mom or dad may have to carry the scooter home while the child rests comfortably in their buggy. An easy solution to this is to buy a scooter hook. It easily hooks to the buggy’s handlebars and frees up the parent’s hands.

Kids Scooter Accessories will make your child’s scooter stand out from the crowd which will encourage your child to use it more often. They are perfect for a birthday or holiday gift or perhaps even as a reward for a recent accomplishment your child has made. Kids Scooter Accessories are such an affordable way to inspire your child to be more active outdoors!
